Teaching Interests: Teaching interests of Associate Professor Karla Loya include instructional development, diversity in higher education, the professoriate, research methods, and dissertation preparation courses. She also supervises doctoral dissertations in Educational Leadership.
Professional Interests: Loya’s research focuses on two main areas: One studies college teaching, learning, and assessment; the other examines access, equity, and diversity/identity issues in higher education. Broadly, she is interested in finding ways for colleges and universities to be more welcoming and supporting places for everyone. Her current projects seek to understand how classroom pedagogies and assessments can support historically underrepresented students, and how gender and race interact with college access, representation, and success in higher education settings.
